What is your chronotype?
The Power of When bases its productivity advice on four different chronotypes. Michael Breus differentiates the groups by animal names, there are bears, dolphins, wolves, and lions. Bears are the most common chronotype. The world is made especially for bears. They go to sleep and get up at ‘normal’ hours and eat meals at typical times. Wolves are night owls, they have high energy levels in the afternoons and often have trouble waking up in the mornings. Most teenagers are typical wolves. Listen to this episode to hear if you can identify your chronotype and see if this book would help you learn about your ideal timeline.
Are you an insomniac?
If you are an insomniac you may be a dolphin. The reason that Breus named this group the dolphins is because part of a dolphin’s brain never really goes to sleep. If your brain is always turned on, then it causes you to wake up at night, or never even go to sleep in the first place. The author explains that a portion of the population has their cortisol and melatonin levels mixed up which causes sleep problems. There are actually a lot of tools that can help you perform better if you are a dolphin. If you have any sleep issues at all, you’ll definitely want to listen to this episode to hear if the book is right for you.
What does The Power of When help with?
The book The Power of When is really helpful identifying when would be the best time for you to do different activities. The book tells you more than simply when is the best time for you to wake up and go to sleep. It gets into when your ideal time to work out is, when you should set aside time to be creative, and even when the ideal time is to have sex with your spouse. The concept of The Power of When is really helpful, but there are a few anomalies. Overall it is an easy, quick read that can really give you insight and help you with productivity.
